Self-driving cars, the concept behind them is simple, you don't drive so no more drunk driving, or accidents, or speeding, or just dumb and reckless driving. It is supposed to help people get around with out having to have busses or taxis, and make it a "safer world". Could this be the answer to one of the worlds top killers? Well it is a proven fact that these cars would be programed with high tech computer technology, which would calculate stopping distances and starting speeds and turns, but would it work? That as of right now is not a question I can answer, but there is a possibility that is won't work as well as expected due to the lack of "human instinct".
Human instinct, is knowledge that every human comes with, everyone has it and it is what makes humans still alive today. Will a computer have enough knowledge to be able to make a split second decision in a crisis or if something goes wrong? The amount of questions that one can have about this car makes me even a bit skeptical about the safety of it. I do not believe that any computer no matter who makes it, will ever have the instinct of a human or even an animal at that. I don't know if this will work or if it will have problems, but I have some facts I will share about this concept.
The self-driving car, it is being designed to sense obstructions and potential threats with, radar, lidar, GPS, odometry, and computer vision. The control systems are designed to pick up the different type of vehicles on the road, so it can make a driving path around them. The self-driving car has increased awareness, which would lower car theft dramatically in the U.S . This car has automatic rain sensing wipers that will, make it so all that anyone has to do is the radio and temp. It makes trips seem shorter if you have someone to talk to, it makes it so you can put all attention on the passenger.
In my option this is a very dangerous car and an expensive and time consuming one at that. It will take an estimated 2 years to convert all cars to the self-driving system. It will be hard to enforce this because people will not want to let go of there driving rights, and there driving freedom. It is not something I am for, there is just to many "what ifs" involved to make it seem safe. I think no machine can replace a human for any job. I hand made item is always better than a machine. I think that this is not a smart venture in the car industry and it should not make it past design.
